Community Resource Center

What is your greatest success?
Our greatest success is when one of our clients rebounds from financial crisis and is able to find some stability. Like the young family that qualifies for a Habitat home. We talk a lot about advocating for big systemic change, educating people about poverty, and all of that, but at the end of the day, it is that one life we are able to touch that keeps us coming to work each day.

What is your biggest challenge?
How high the deck is stacked against people in poverty, especially in a community like Jackson where just finding a decent place to live seems impossible.

What do you want the community to know that they may not be aware of?
That the myths people hear about people in poverty and immigrants are patently false. Our clients are some of the hardest working people I know, struggling every day to try to give their kids opportunities that they never had.

Jackson Cupboard

What is your greatest success?
Our greatest success is our incredible core of volunteers. People are willing all the time to help.

What is your biggest challenge?
Our biggest challenge is reaching out to the people who need food. Because of pride or handicap this is a difficult thing to accomplish.

What do you want the community to know that they may not be aware of?
The community may not know that your neighbor could be using the cupboard.

Children’s Learning Center

What is your greatest success?
Supporting positive parent participation in the education and health of their young children which sets up the kids for success in school and life…especially for our low income and Latino families.

What is your biggest challenge?
Public and private funding for early education services is often unstable and unpredictable.

What do you want the community to know that they may not be aware of?
We can change the picture of education in the state of Wyoming by investing in early education and intervention services…..improve graduation rates, increase the number of kids going to college, expand parent engagement, reduce crime rates and teen pregnancy, reduce health costs, increase the overall state income.

Senior Center of Jackson Hole

What is your greatest success?
Being in Jackson since 1979 serving the senior population.

What is your biggest challenge?
Raising money. Needing now to look more to the community for funding. Needing to be prepared for the “silver tsunami” -the baby boomer population coming of age.

What do you want the community to know that they may not be aware of?
That the Senior Center exists and what it does. Practically no promotion is ever done.

Head Start

The biggest obstacle in our Head Start Program is the realities that our families face work wise and housing wise.

Regardless the biggest strength is the commitement to their kids and family. Sometimes this can be colored by culture that can work for or against them, depending on the circumstances.

Our biggest challenge after workforce and housing is addressed, is integration without loosing identity. We are pushing for diversity and integration in all the programs. Doing this will just make us stronger and richer.

Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church

What is your greatest success?
We have successfully served the poor and needy of Jackson since 2009. Our mission is “to nourish those who hunger in an atmosphere of respect, acceptance and love.”

What is your biggest challenge?
A fundamental theme of Catholic Social Teaching is to put the needs of the poor and the vulnerable first. At times we feel our service is inadequate because it is difficult to find affordable and transitional housing for those in need. It is heartbreaking.

What do you want the community to know that they may not be aware of?
We encourage members of the Jackson community to refer those who would benefit from out Community Lunch Program. We believe our church is a refuge for those who are in despair or have lost hope.
